Avocado Mayo
Description
A quick no-cook creamy condiment that combines mashed ripe avocado with mayo, garlic, lime juice, and seasonings. It makes everything it touches better — burgers, tacos, fries, sandwiches, or as a dip for veggie sticks.
Ingredients
- 1 large ripe Hass avocado
- ½ cup mayonnaise (preferably good quality or homemade)
- 2 cloves garlic, minced finely (or pressed through a garlic press)
- Juice of 1 lime (about 2 tablespoons)
- 1 teaspoon freshly squeeze lemon juice (optional, for brightness)
- ¼ teaspoon salt, or to taste
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, finely chopped (optional)
- 1 pinch smoked paprika (optional, for depth)
- 1–2 tablespoons water (as needed to adjust consistency)
Instructions
- Cut the avocado in half, remove and discard the pit, and scoop the flesh into a medium bowl. Remove any visible stringy bits.
- Add the minced garlic and lime juice to the avocado. Use a fork or potato masher to mash until smooth but still slightly textured.
- Stir in mayonnaise, salt, pepper, and lemon juice (if using) until fully combined and the color is even.
- Taste and adjust seasoning — add more salt, lime, or garlic as needed. If the mixture is too thick, thin it with 1–2 tablespoons water until it reaches your desired consistency.
- Fold in chopped cilantro and smoked paprika (if using) for extra flavor layers.
- Transfer to a serving dish or storage container. Serve immediately or cover with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface of the mayo (to limit browning) and refrigerate.
Notes
- Avoid browning: Avocado oxidizes quickly. Press plastic wrap directly on the surface, add an extra squeeze of lemon/lime juice to help preserve color, and use within 2 days for best results.
- For a vegan version, substitute mayo with silken tofu blended smooth, or a store-bought vegan mayo.
- Great uses: spread on burgers or sandwiches, as a taco topping, drizzled over grilled fish or shrimp, or served alongside chips and fresh vegetables.
- You can add a dash of hot sauce (like Sriracha) for a spicy kick.
